Living History

Redel Rentals has properties located throughout the south side of Chicago, including in the Bronzeville and Englewood communities.

The Bronzeville (nicknamed the Black Metropolis) community boundaries are generally from S. 31st St. to Pershing Rd. and from the Dan Ryan Expressway to Lake Michigan. This historic African-American community is known as a hub for historic Black culture, businesses, and institutions, including the Chicago Defender newspaper. Notable former residents of this community have been poet Gwendolyn Brooks and jazz musician Muddy Waters.

The Englewood community boundaries are 55th Street (Garfield Boulevard) on the North, 75th Street on the South, Racine Avenue on the West and an irregular boundary bordered by Metra on the East and extending as far as State Street. Redevelopment is beginning to redefine this community. There is a shopping center on 63rd and Halsted anchored by a Whole Foods grocery store, Kennedy King Community College offers training at Washburn Culinary program, Nursing and other careers. The Englewood Neighborhood Health Clinic and a Senior Satellite Center that offers fitness and wellness programs, social worker, computer training classes, trips and workshops. Transportation includes bus lines, and the Dan Ryan Expressway conveniently located.
